The Last Academy by Anne Applegate-ADVISABLE

Applegate, Anne, The Last Academy. Pgs. 316. Point, 2013. $17.99. Language: G, Mature Content: G, Violence: PG-13.

After a falling out with her best friend, Camden Fisher gets a scholarship to go to Lithe Academy, a prep boarding school. Weird things start happening, however, when one of her friends disappears. None of the teachers seem to be concerned. One in particular, BarnabyCharon, seems to be behind it all. Can Camden figure out what is going on before more friends disappear or worse, her?

The ending is a little predictable, but the plot is intense and well-developed. The characters seem a little shallow, but are fairly believable. Readers who like mythology, mystery, and school fiction will enjoy reading this story. MS, HS. ADVISABLE. Reviewer: Kira M, Youth Services Librarian, WHI Public Library.
