Strings Attached by Judy Blundell -- Advisable

Blundell, Judy Strings Attached, 313 pgs. Scholastic, 2011. Language - PG; Sexual Content - PG; Violence - PG-13. Sixteen-year-old Kat leaves her home in Rhode Island for New York where she hopes to become an actress. She gets her big break when her ex-boyfriend's father takes an interest and helps her get a job. But then she is expected to return the favor by keeping tabs on his son.

This is a beautifully written, well-crafted novel. The historical backdrop was fascinating. Half the story took place in Kit's present time, the end of 1950, while the other half was told in flashbacks, sometimes only a month or two in the past, was really cool and interesting. But by the end, sort of frustrating. I was intent on Kit's present story of what was happening in the fall of 1950, when there was a large chunk of flashback, making me wait to find out. A really remarkable historical fiction novel.
