The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab - OPTIONAL

Schwab, Victoria The Near Witch, 288 p. Disney, 2011.  $17.  Violence: PG.

The small village of Near survived an attack by a witch decades earlier.  Now only two reclusive sisters at the edge of town are left of anything witch-like.  When a strange wind blows a mysterious stranger into town, Lexi is drawn to him and worried for him – especially when children in Near start to disappear.  Is the stranger to blame?  The sisters?  Or is something much older and many times more disturbing a the heart of Near’s tribulations?  While the elements of fear and romance are there, the book fails to grab you and compel you to keep reading.  While it might be useful for a large, active collection, it is not a first choice.
