Illustrated by Dyer, Jane and Dyer, Brooke Music and Lyrics by Heider, Frederich H. and Kress, Carl There’s a Train Out for Dreamland, 40 pgs. HarperCollins, 2010. $13.25. Putting images to melody, this story tells of the train that goes to dreamland. Driven by a chocolate brown bear, it makes stops for goodies and travels past yummy and fun scenery. To get a ticket, a child only has to close their eyes. The original score is included in the back, should you have a piano on hand.
Using the lyrics to the classic song, the illustrators endeavored to create a fun & enchanting world to lure a child to sleep. I would say it works perfect but to save it for reading to a pre-K child at home for bedtime. Students have a hard enough time paying attention without being lulled to sleep by candy coated dreams. Thanks to reading this, I am having a mad craving for cracker jacks just about now. So if there is a big push for nap time at your school, this may be just the book for your collection.
