Thompson, Holly Orchards, pgs. 327 Delacorte Press, 2011. $17.99. Language-G; Sexual Content-G; Violence-PG-13; Kana comes from a Jewish-Japanese family. When Kana and her friends are the likely cause of Ruth's suicide, Kana is sent to live with her family in Japan. At first things are tense with her family, but will they accept her and her dad? All through the orange picking, Kana thinks that maybe she could have stopped Ruth from hanging herself. When her friend Lisa hangs herself too, can Kana resist the urge? I liked this book, but at first thought it weird. The book has no sentences just more like poems that don't rhyme. It was odd to read but I liked it. The author had me a little confused, she would hint that maybe the character was fat, but she didn't elaborate or give more detail. The same was with her friends she just gave names really, no details or backgrounds. I think that the author should rewrite the book with real sentences and paragraphs. MS-HS-OPTIONAL.
