Hamster Magic by Lynne Jonell

Hamster Magic (A Stepping Stone Book(TM))
Jonell, Lynne, Hamster Magic, Random House Books, 2010. Pgs. 103. Language: G, Violence: G, Sexual Content: G

When Celia Willow finds a talking hamster, her and her siblings are granted one wish. The wish has to be something a hamster would want, though. When Celia blurts out that she want to be big, however, she soon finds herself transformed into a giant hamster. The wishes uses up the rest of the hamster’s magic and he can no longer change her back. The four siblings’ only chance is to find the Great Hamster in hopes that she can reverse the spell. Will Celia be stuck as a hamster forever or will the four succeed in turning her back?

A cute, short adventure for early chapter book readers. The illustrations are well-done. The plot is fairly well-developed for an early chapter book. The characters are cute and fun to follow in the book. Readers who like animals, magic, fantasy, and adventure will enjoy reading this book. EL (K-3). ADVISABLE. Reviewer: Kira M, Youth Services Librarian, WHI Public Library.
