Sona and the Wedding Game by Kashmira Sheth- ADVISABLE

Sheth, Kashmira. Sona and the Wedding Game, PICTURE BOOK. Peachtree Publishers, 2015. $16.95. At an Eastern Indian wedding there are many jobs to be done. During her sister’s wedding, Sona has been asked to steal the groom’s shoes. She must come up with a plan to get the shoes and a bargain to give them back. With her cousin’s help, she is successful and the shoe theft adds excitement and humor to the wedding. This is a simple, well-illustrated picture book that presents many different Hindu wedding traditions. I love the realism in the pictures and the colors are beautiful. There are descriptions in the back of the book about Hindu weddings which will give students a much better understanding of a culture that they will likely not have had much contact with. The story isn’t complex, but the book will definitely be worth the multiculturalism it adds to your library. Content: G. EL (K-3), EL-ADVISABLE. Reviewed by: Shay, School Librarian
