Like most coding books this book requires a computer with access
to the internet so the reader/coder can download the resources the book
requires (like their custom animations and the scratch program itself). After
that readers can learn all about the basics of making music using scratch.
Turns out scratch even has its own sound library. This book starts simple but
quickly gets quite complex with composing, and the addition of animation.
This book was more complex than the other book from this
series that I reviewed. Not only would the student need the basics of coding
already but a drive to create music, well from scratch. I know many students
like to re-mix like a DJ, or even create music out of pre-made sound bites then
add their own custom beats –but this book is really more for the student
composers. I think even upper elementary students may find this book a bit out
of their league.
