Max and his pet owl Marla are ready for the first day of
spring, which they will celebrate with a beautiful homemade feast. When Max goes to pick flowers, though, Marla
falls asleep and animal invaders ruin the picnic. Now the fast friends aren’t speaking.
The first Max and Marla book was so cute. This time, though, a little boy cooking a
picnic feast with no adults around anywhere seems a bit weird. Boiger could have at least asked his mom or
dad help him pack the feast. The message
of forgiving friends is nice, but doesn’t make up the other lack.
