Layton, Neal The Tree Illustrated. Unpaged. Candlewick Press, 2016. $16.99. PICTURE BOOK
Told with just a few simple words per page, this cautionary tale shows what happens more and more regularly now as humans encroach on animal habitats. When a couple start to clear their land in preparation for building their dream home, they discover that they are not the first ones there. So, they revise their plans in order to live in harmony with the local critters.
This simple fable could be used to introduce the concept of theme or inference, or to start a discussion on disappearing habitats or compromise, or to celebrate Earth Day.
