Alexander, Lloyd The
Castle of Llyr (Chronicles of Prydain, #3), 170 pgs. Henry Holt and Company, 1966. $25.99
Content: PG.
Taran is to escort
his friend, Eilonwy to the Isle of Mona so that she may learn to be a true
princess. Taran has feelings for Eilonwy, even though he is just an assistant
pig keeper, so when Taran finds out that Eilonwy is to marry Prince Rhun he is
upset. Danger quickly follows the group
of friends and Taran has to find Eilonwy after she has been kidnapped by an old
nemesis.
This is the 50th
anniversary edition and a cloth bound book.
It has maps, author’s notes, pronunciation guide, pictures from the author
of his outline and an excerpt from another Alexander work. I enjoy the series of Prydain and I love the
characters, but in this book there is a lot of sidetracking stories that go on
and on, that distract from the more exciting part of getting to Eilonwy. If your students like the Book of Three and
the Black Cauldron then they will enjoy this book as well. I do recommend reading the first two books in
the series, otherwise this book will be confusing. The audio reader was fantastic.
