It’s Maple Madness in Pumpkin Falls and the town is buzzing with visitors and activity, but someone is cutting the tubes on the maple trees and the town is divided. It’s neighbor against neighbor, so 13- year old Truly and the Pumpkin Falls Private Eyes may have another mystery on their hands.
Swim training, a town mystery, a hidden diary, the underground railroad, knitting class, pet sitting, boy trouble and sibling rivalry all come into play, but it felt like a slow read. There is a lot going on, but the pace of life in a small town is slow. Reading book 1 (Absolutely Truly) is a must, as there are characters that pop up briefly, and background knowledge is helpful for keeping track of everything. I love the literary references, that they run an independent bookstore and that everyone in the town knows everyone, but I think this may be a hard sell as it is not too romantic, or action packed, or all that suspenseful (even though it’s a mystery), but I can’t help but love it for what it is - a small town story.
