Dinosaurs in Disguise by Stephen Krensky- OPTIONAL

Krensky, Stephen. Dinosaurs in Disguise, PICTURE BOOK. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2016. $17.99. A child is convinced that dinosaurs never really died out after the meteor hit earth. He believes that they were around for so long they could definitely survive something crashing into the planet. But, the dinosaurs were scared. So they decided to hide themselves in plain sight during all the changes that took place over time. Eventually the dinosaurs became used to hiding all the time and they just never stopped. The child tries to convince the dinosaurs to come out of hiding telling them about all of the wonderful reasons they would love to live regular lives. He also realizes that there might be some things that the dinosaurs might not actually like and they could get uncomfortable or sick, so he’ll keep the dinosaurs’ secret for them. The illustrations are the best part of this book. They are drawn by Tacky the Penguin creator, Lynn Munsinger. The different disguises the dinosaurs come up with are cute and inventive. I wasn’t in love with the storyline. I thought if it had been a little more complex and detailed, it would have been more striking. PRE-K, EL (K-3)- OPTIONAL. Reviewed by Shay, School Librarian
