A simple sweet story about wanting something and friendship. Two
turtles in the desert find a single cowboy hat. They love the hat, but leave it
since there isn’t a hat for each of them. When one turtle decides the hat might
be worth having on its own, it learns a valuable lesson about friendship.
Features simple harmonious colors and illustrations.
I liked this book, though one objection might be.. can’t the turtles
just take the hat and share it, you know..by taking turns wearing it or
something? I guess the ending the author chose does leave it open for children to
brainstorm some of the those types of solutions. Simple enough lesson here to
share with a Pre-K class, while older readers would notice more details, like
the eyes of the turtle who wants the that for itself.
