Levy, Debbie I Dissent: Ruth Bader Ginsburg makes
her Mark, Illustrated by Baddeley, Elizabeth. PICTURE BOOK. Simon,
2016. $17.99. Content: G
This is a full biography of Ruth Bader Ginsburg; from her
childhood in the Bronx, to the prejudice she both saw and faced, her education
and her objects to how women were told to just get married, her supportive
family and her strong ability to voice her dissent and disagreements. Filled
with big bright illustrations that can be shared with a group and facts and photographs
in the end notes.
This is a top notch biography in every regard, perfected crafted
for elementary readers. The artwork is just stellar; interesting, varied,
bright, bold, and creative. Ruth Ginsburg is a wonderful role model. I will be showing this to each and every upper
grade teacher, it would make a great read-a-loud for those classes who have a
foundation in the 1950’s-1960’s. This book could also easily function as the
foundation for a class report, because it covers her entire life.
