Schonberger, Jane, Aladdin: Read
A-Long Storybook and CD. Narrated by Jim Cummings and Full Cast. Disney Hyperion, 2015. $6.99. PICTURE BOOK.
Meet Aladdin, street rat and thief. With
a heart of gold, he longs to live in the palace. When he meets a girl in the
marketplace who gets into trouble, he rescues her. Soon, however, he learns
that the girl he is enamored with is the Princess herself. Arrested by the
palace guards, an old man appears to him in prison with promise of freedom and
wealth unimaginable. When an old man leads him to the Cave of Wonders, he gets
betrayed. Thanks to a blue genie, however, he’s able to not only escape, but
turn into Prince Ali. Jafar, the Sultan’s Grand Vizier, however, has other
plans for ruling the kingdom and Ali is in his way. Will Aladdin be able to
defeat Jafar? Will he win the heart of the princess?
Narrator, Jim Cummings brings his
delightful menagerie of intonations to life as he and the cast of Aladdin draw
the reader into the story. The movie-like sounds make the reader fill like they
are stepping into Disney’s creation, not just reading it. A wonderful,
full-sound experience for young children, this is a must-have for any library
collection.
