Cuevas, Michelle The
Uncorker of Ocean Bottles Illustrated by Erin E. Stead PICTURE BOOK
Dial Books for Young Readers, 2016 (Penguin). $17.99
Content: G.
A man lives all alone
along the shore and watches for messages in the bottle. When he finds different messages he delivers
them to those they were addressed to and always hopes that he will find a
message for himself. One day he gets a
message from the sea that isn’t addressed to anyone, but asks for a meeting at
a certain time and place. As the man
asks around to see if they would know who it belongs to, in a way the whole
village is invited to a party on the shore and the man is no longer lonely
anymore.
The illustrations in this book
are interesting and set the tone for the lonely uncorker. They are muted in color, but the drawing are
fun to look closer at. The story line is
a bit predictable, but you can’t help but be happy that the uncorker is no
longer lonely.
