The Princess and the Page by Christina Farley - OPTIONAL

Farley, Christina The Princess and the Page, 240 pages.  Scholastic Press, JANUARY 2017.  $17.  Content: G.

When someone breaks into their home, Kiera, 11, searching for her parents’ cell phone, instead finds a pen – a magical pen, though she doesn’t know it.  After her parents overreact to the home invasion, Kiera uses the pen to write a fantasy story for a contest.  When she wins, Kiera, her mother, and her best friend Bella, are whisked away to a fabulous vacation in a French chateau.  There Bella comes to the realization that the history of the chateaus is freakily similar to the story that she wrote.  Something is wrong and Kiera is the only one who can fix it.

While there is a certain charm to the book, it is definitely written for a younger audience who won’t notice or mind the plot holes and gaping leaps of logic that don’t work within this fantasy realm.

EL – OPTIONAL.  Cindy, Library Teacher.
