Hunter Joy is now an Elite, so she doesn’t have to avoid the cameras or play up to.  Hunter Ace, who tired to kill her, is in prison.  Everything seems pretty routine – at least as routine as it can be in a world where creatures from another dimension regularly show and try to eat everyone in sight – until not only do new creatures start appearing, but the volume increases immensely.  During one such battle, Ace defects to the Otherworld.  Joy knows that with him working with the enemy, there is a good change the Otherworlders can bring down all of civilization.

Joy is an awesome main character, but she is not the only person who grows during the novels.  It seems like there needs to be one more books at least to round out the action, so I am holding out hope for a third title.  If you have never read a Mercedes Lackey book before, you really should get started – her breadth and depth are awe-inspiring!
