Donaldson, Julia A Squash and a Squeeze, illustrated by Axel
Scheffler. PICTURE BOOK (reprint). Scholastic, 1993, 2016. $17.
An older lady is whining about her little house and the wise
old man suggests she add one animal after another into the house. When the animals are finally booted, she
realizes that her house has plenty of room for one.
I don’t know if I read the book when it first came out or if
I have just heard the story as a proverb before. If your copy is worn out from being used in
folktale units, now would be a good time to replace it. I am kind of curious why Scholastic decided
to reprint this now.
