Dormer, Frank W. The Sword in the Stove. PICTURE BOOK.
Atheneum (Simon), 2016. Content:
PG (knights roasted).
The story starts out with one knight holding himself and
running for the bathroom. The other
knights gather to cook dinner, disappointed that they didn’t find a dragon to
kill that day. To their chagrin, they
find first a sword, and then a shield, and even a helmet in the stove.
SPOILERS: You
definitely have to have a quirky, macabre sense of humor to enjoy the dragon
bragging about how he roasted Harold at 350 degrees after he flame roasts the
other two knights for dessert. As much
as I enjoy the illustrations, I am not as sold on the actual story.
EL (K-3) – NOT RECOMMENDED.
