Corey, Shana Hillary Clinton: The Life of a Leader, illustrated by Adam Gustavson. NON-FICTION. Random House, 2016. $3.99. Content: G.
This biography of Hillary Clinton addresses her life leading up to her 2015 announcement that she would run for president. The text focuses on the positive, inspirational aspects of her life and career, and shows her as a good role model for girls who would also like to become leaders someday. My six-year-old, for example, wants to be president after reading this book with me several times. Clinton's political views are not covered in-depth here, and mostly address issues of equality in education and healthcare, and rights for women and those of various races. Both photographs and illustrations accompany the text. It would be nice to have a little more explanation with the photographs, but they do tell nice stories in and of themselves. Our paperback copy is beginning to come unbound after just a few readings, so I would recommend a hardback or other reinforced binding.
