Easton, T.S. Boys Don’t Knit (In public), 265 pgs. MacMillan (Feiwel and Friends), 2015. $16.99.
Language: PG (13 swears); Mature Content: R (very crude language); Violence: G.
Ben Fletcher is not a rule breaker, in fact, he goes out of his way to always do the right thing. But, his friends are always getting him in trouble, this time it was bad trouble. Now Ben is part of the “Young Offenders” program. He must keep a journal (which is ridiculous because he’s kept a diary for years), enroll in a community school class (which ends up being a knitting class) and give back to the community by helping the victim of his crime. Ben discovers that he is really quite good at knitting, but there’s a stigma around boys who knit, so he can’t let anyone know. Not even his dad.
This book was so funny, but very crude, and full of nasty British slang. Although the swear count was low, the mature content makes this difficult to recommend.
