Scott’s best friend, Jamie just
committed suicide. The pressure of being bullied for being gay got to him.
Carmen is a lesbian and has started getting death threats. Scott, a football
player, wants to start a GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance). Carmen wants to start a
GSA, too but can’t get teacher support and Scott can’t get student support.
Together, they might be able to get the needed signatures.
This quick read shows the need for
tolerance and the issues of bullying is a realistic, relatable way. The
characters are likable. The plot is well-presented. Readers interested in
realistic fiction, bullying, and making a difference will enjoy reading this
book.
