This book is about a Prairie Chicken who hears a rumbling and a grumbling and starts running because she is scared. She is sure that a stampede is coming and needs to warn Cowboy Stan and Red Dog Dan.  Along the way she meets up with her friends and asks them to join her in warning others about the stampede.  They eventually meet up with a coyote who knows a shortcut to finding Cowboy Stan and Red Dog Dan.  They go with the coyote but he sneakily leads them to his cave.  He tries to eat the chicken and they all scream and holler.  Cowboy Stan and Red Dog Dan hear their screams and come and help chase the coyote lickety, splickety, far, far away! They eventually find out what the rumbling and grumbling really is.  Read to find out!  It’s a pretty funny ending. The illustrations are really good.  Pre-K.  EL (K-3).  ADVISABLE.  Reviewer: JL- age 10.
