Sauer, Tammi Nugget
and Fang Illustrated by Michael Slack PICTURE BOOK
Harcourt Children’s Books, 2013. $16.99
Content: G.
Fang the shark and
Nugget the minnow are best friends. Fang
is a little sad when Nugget goes to school and he and Nugget can’t play all day
together. What’s worse though is that at
school Nugget is learning why sharks are bad-they eat minnows with their sharp
teeth. After school, Nugget shows Fang
what he has learned and Fang is heartbroken.
In his efforts to win back Nugget, Fang sends him flowers, invites him
to dinner and shows up at school, but the other minnows at school interpret
Fang’s action as bad. One day a fish net captures all the minnows
and is pulling them to the surface, Fang uses his sharp teeth to save them
all.
This book has fantastic illustrations
that are bright and expressive. The
storyline is a sweet story of friendship.
I think this is a great addition to any elementary library.
