Devin is unhappy to move to California with her family. She is leaving behind her best friend and her soccer team. She is nervous to start seventh grade, she is sure everyone is already friends. But right away she finds out that the soccer team girls are super friendly! Devin is eager to join the team and finds out pretty quickly that the team is a flop. Used to success, Devin doesn't know how to confront the situation, some of it from the players and much of it from the coach. Can Devin help to turn things around?
This is a fantastic sports book series for girls. The cover is bright, modern, and appealing. Although the characters are in middle school, it’s a fairly easy and fun read, better for elementary fourth through sixth graders. I am not a sports fan and found the soccer component well written and understandable. There is a dictionary of terminology included in the back, if needed. The characters are well-developed and realistic. The author, a young female Olympic soccer player is a great role model for readers.
