Fabio does not like to do things that other dogs enjoy and yet his owners persist in trying to engage him with these things. One night Max, his owners’ kid, follows Fabio out of the house and witnesses Fabio interacting gleefully with a group of cats. Max starts engaging Fabio by treating him more like a cat and everyone is happier.
I like the idea presented here that sometimes you just don’t feel like everyone around you and that is okay. Many girls who enjoy traditionally masculine activities and boys who also break gender norms, will find solace in the characters of Fabio and Max. The illustrations accompanying this inclusive message are bright and welcoming.
