BUYING ADVISORY: NOT RECOMMENDED

AUDIENCE APPEAL: LOW

Quirk is the captain of a mission that had seen setback after setback in the first book, and continues to encounter detours in this addition. It starts with them stranded from their previous journey and they encounter different volatile creatures and characters, including an advanced civilization that doesn’t think very highly of them. The group only gets along a small portion of the time and the story is told with diary writing and speech bubbles.

I found this book very hard to follow.  Even trying to write this review, I couldn’t quite recall all the reasons behind what they were doing and how they got there. There are a lot of characters with hard to read names and much of the plot is told through Quirk’s diary, which is written in a hard to read cursive. I think students will have a hard time with this graphic novel.  The illustrations may appeal to some, but the plot will lose many.
