Max Patkin loved baseball, but
when he was injured he realized that he is not going to be able to obtain his
baseball dreams. His love of the game
draws him to the baseball fields and quickly he finds a place as the
entertainment during games. His
bumbling, clown-like act was enjoyed by baseball fans and players for many
years. In today’s baseball games, instead
of this type of slap-stick humor, we now have mascots. Max liked to make people laugh and loved the game
of baseball and lucky for him he was able to combine his two loves.
The illustrations in this book are bright and
appealing and kids who love to read about sports will be drawn to the front
cover. The story is long and I guess I
just didn’t get the appeal of Max Patkin’s schtick. It is similar to a Three Stooges type act
that he played out in front of crowds.
The back page has an author’s note with his biography.
