Leo is a mail carrier and delivers mail to
everyone in his little old town. Leo
enjoys delivering mail to his neighbors and friends. Leo has a happy life except for one thing… no
one has ever written a letter to Leo. One day while Leo is opening the town
mailbox, he hears “Cheep! Cheep!” from inside the box. A small baby bird has been stuck inside the
mailbox. Leo takes him home and cares
for him. Leo names him “Cheep” and they
soon become a family. The following
spring when birds leave their warm winter homes and fly north, Cheep, who is
now a big little bird, is ready to go.
Leo is sad to see him go, but his sadness does not last long when he
receives in the mail his very first letter!
The letter is from his new friend, Cheep.
This is a sweet book about
friendship and love. Leo is content with
his life and his friends, but is missing a connection with someone
special. Once he and Cheep become
friends, Leo’s life is complete. Leo is
an adorable ferritlike creature who wins over the reader’s heart. Ruzzier’s illustrations are fun and
inviting.
