This House, Once by Deborah Freedman- ADVISABLE

Freedman, Deborah This House, Once. PICTURE BOOK. Atheneum Books for Young Readers, 2017. $17.99.  Content: G.

Have you ever wondered where the doors, stone, brick, windows, and roof tiles in your house originally came from?  This beautiful picture book investigates the beginnings of many materials used to build a house.  “The roof was once rock, carved and cleft and shingled to shelter.”  “These bricks were once mud that oozed around root, sticky and loose before formed and baked hard.” The story ends with the house itself remembering the events that occurred within its walls.

The illustrations are beautiful!  The story is sweet and simple. This would make a perfect housewarming gift for someone special.
