Lola is a second grader who loves soccer, has one friend, named
Josh, is nice to her little brother, wants a cat, is very high energy, and
creative. In this fast-paced first book Lola accidently hurts someone during
school recess soccer and contends with being made fun of. Feature many
illustrations to help readers.
This easy chapter book was fun read with lots of personality. As
a first book in the series, it is very soccer oriented, so it could be
off-putting for young readers that have no interest in the sport. The cover is unappealing
and dated looking (this is comparison to some of the fantastic covers I have
been seeing lately). I felt like the character was maybe in 4th
grade, not second grade, but I don’t think readers will mind that. I liked that
Lola wrote thank you notes and sorry notes, maybe it will be a good influence!
