The Legislature is in session in Utah. Starting this last Monday and ending March 13, it is always a whirlwind of conversation, opposition, intrigue and legislation affection your lives for good and for ill.
As things ramp up, we, librarians of Utah would like to suggest some picture books that would be valuable for our legislature to read. I don't know that we'll have a suggestion every day, but at least we will create a nice little list for our representatives.
To kick things off, my personal choice is Laurie Keller's Do Unto Otters: A Book about Manners. Mr. Rabbit is very worried about his new neighbors. Wise Mr. Owl talks Mr. Rabbit through his anxiety and give him good advice to make nice with the neighbors. This fun, amazing, joyful book is great for almost every age. Its advice is useful for any situation where you are meeting people for the first time or need to cooperate with people who are very different from you. Very, very wise.
Good luck Legislators! --Kiss the Book
