16yo Willie steals the identity of a graduated girl from her
school so that she can teach at the Cherokee Female Seminary in Indian Territory. Willie is avoiding her family and the farm
life they live, but she finds teaching is a lot more work than she is prepared
for. While at the Cherokee Seminary she
finds herself haunted by a ghost that she believes is one of the students who
passed away the year before. Willie
becomes involved in a murder mystery to uncover the murderer.
This book was interesting and I loved the
ghost story aspect. It kept me guessing
as to who the murderer was and it had a little bit of romance. There were historical aspects that made it interesting because the Cherokee Female Seminary was a real school. My issue with the book that moved it from
advisable to optional is that the first 250 pages were an exciting ghost story
and then the last 75 pages were trying to show character development. It felt like two completely different stories about the same person.
