Bunting, Eve Have
You Seen My New Blue Socks? Illustrated by
Sergio Ruzzier. 32 pgs. Clarion Books,
2013. $16.99. PICTURE BOOK.
Duck has
lost is new blue socks and can’t seem to find them anywhere. He asks his friends the fox, Mr. Ox, and even
the peacocks. All his friends are
concerned for Duck and share advice as to where the socks might be
located. Duck is unable to find them in
his box or down by the rocks. The longer
he looks, the more worried he becomes. With a sharp eye one of his peacock
friends is able to help solve the mystery.
This is a great rhyming book. Bunting’s
style is perfect for reading aloud. Children
will be thrilled with the storyline as well as the illustrations done in
beautiful watercolor paintings. Duck’s expressions are perfectly depicted. Ruzzier adds humor to this book by painting
in a pair of underwear in one scene and having the Ox sitting at an easel painting
a tree as if it was the most natural thing for an ox to do. The story has a bit of a Dr. Seuss feel to
it.
