Paquette, A.J. Rules for Ghosting, 257 pgs. Walker
Books, 2013. $16.99. Language: PG; Violence: PG; Mature Content: PG
The Day family has
just moved into Silverton Manor. The stay is supposed to be temporary as
Mr. and Mrs. Day have been hired to get the old house into shape to be sold in
a few months. The Day children are used to moving often and have grow accustom
to the routine of house sitting, but Silverton Manor is different from any
other house they have lived in. This one comes with a ghost.
This book is a fun
quick story that upper elementary readers will enjoy. The characters are lively
and it is easy to root for the Day family and their resident ghost, Dahlia,
against the evil forces of a dishonest ghost hunter and unscrupulous town
councilman. The mystery surrounding Dahia’s death turns out to be a bit lame,
but overall it is a lovely read.
