Holub, Joan Dig, Scoop, Ka-Boom! Illustrated by David Gordon. 24 pgs. Random House, 2013. $3.99. EARLY READER. The beginning of the book makes you believe
there is a normal construction crew doing their job. The construction crew has a long day ahead of
them and they have to get to work. Each
machine does its specific job and the team gets the job done. It turns out the construction crew is
actually a group of kids in the sandbox with toys. They complete the “Job” and return home after
a fun filled day.
This book has an interesting twist in the end I didn’t see
coming, but it was still a slow story.
Even for a children’s early reader book.
There was nothing captivating happening, and there was no hidden message
or a moral the kids could possibly see. The entire book only offers trucks
driving around picking up dirt. Pre-K. EL (K-3). OPTIONAL.
