One Big Family by Marc Harshman- ADVISABLE

Harshman, Marc One Big Family. Illustrated by Sara Palacios. Eerdmans Books for Young Readers, 2016. $17.00. PICTURE BOOK.  When summer is nearly over, it’s time for a family reunion Grandma and Grandpa, Aunts and Uncles and cousins. Different adventures such as rowing down the river, telling ghost stories at a campfire and learning how to fish are just of few of the festive activities. Each page is full of bright, colorful illustrations and each activity description ending with a verb in bold, colorful font: “When the crickets sing and the end of summer is near, Grandma and Grandpa say COME.”  Not only would this be a fun book to explore different summer activities, but it would also be useful in a unit on teaching verbs.  The book is simple yet interesting.  The illustrations are incredible detailed and colorful.  We enjoyed this book.  Pre-K.  EL (K-3).  ADVISABLE.
