Lipan, Sabine Mom, There's a Bear at
the Door. Eerdman Books for Young Readers,
2016. $16.00. PICTURE BOOK. When a
little girl informs her mom that there is a bear at the door, an ongoing,
imaginative conversation takes place that sends readers on a magical
journey. How does a bear get on an
elevator and to the 11
th floor? Pushes the button, of course. How
does the bear get to the apartment from the forest? The bus, of course. For
every question the mother raises, the little girl has a completely logical (or
is it?) explanation. After eating black
forest cake and honey cake atop the apartment building, the little girl and
bear make the journey back to the forest and have a nap. This is an adorable book that will become a
favorite of many. The story is perfectly
written. The illustrations are
unique. The wording for the little girl
is in black and the wording for the mother is in red. There is a lot of repetition in their
conversations and makes this book a great early reader. Pre-K.
