Katy and the Big Snow by Virginia Lee Burton - ESSENTIAL

Burton, Virginia Lee  Katy and the Big Snow  Houghton Mifflin Company, 1943.  BOARD BOOK  $11.99  Content: G.

Katy is a big strong tractor and she can have a bulldozer or snow plow attached to her that allows her to help the Highway Department of the City of Geoppolis keep the roads in working order.  At first when it starts to snow, there isn’t enough to get Katy out, but then it snows so much that nobody can get out but Katy, so she starts to plow the town out.  Then she finally rests.

My boys LOVE this book!  The detailed drawings of the town and the big strong snowplow with a lot of jobs that the reader gets to watch Katy do make this a fun one to read.  This is a must for libraries-Virginia Lee Burton’s books are great.

PREK, EL (K-3)-ESSENTIAL.  Reviewer, C. Peterson.
