Dadey, Debbie Dream of the Blue Turtle (Mermaid Tales #7) 128 pgs, Aladdin, 2014. $15.99 Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G Violence: G
When a giant sea turtle comes to visit her school, Kiki isn’t that excited. That is because she had a predictive vision of her classmate and the turtle in danger. Kiki has known about her gift for seeing the future, but her friends don’t know about it. Kiki would like to be able to share it with them, and get their help. Will Kiki be able to stop the future?
This series is quite popular with the 3rd grade girls at my school. But this was my least favorite of them so far because nothing was really resolved. Kiki is sort of bullied by a classmate, but we never see a resolution to that situation. Kiki simply vows to not let it happen again, but the reader doesn’t know how she will go about doing that. Kiki is worried her friends won’t accept her gift, and even after she tells them, they don’t really support her in trying to stop what her vision predicted, she is pretty much on her own. Also the concept of psychic premonitions things might be a bit much for the young fans of this series.
