Big Bad Detective Agency by Bruce Hale – NOT RECOMMENDED

Hale, Bruce Big Bad Detective Agency 128 pgs. Scholastic Paperbacks, 2015. $9.99 Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G Violence: G
In this off kilter fairytale land called Fairylandia, everything isn’t quite what it seems. The Big Bad Wolf is big and bad, but he is insisting that he didn’t break into the three little pigs home and trash it. But he must prove his innocence and finds an unlikely side kick in the little pigs very little brother. Together they create a list of suspects and start investigating, but the typical fairytale characters aren’t so typical in this story.
I liked the spin the author took with the characters, like goldilocks as a house robber for example, which makes total sense. But I found the humor to be crass, with flirty characters, fake swearing, and lots of different words used for butts, such as Hot Cross buns. In a way, if felt like creepy grownup humor, rather than the potty silly childish humor that’s found in say, Captain Underpants, or my favorite, Otis Dooda. There is no way I would add this book to my libraries collection.
