Waters, Kate Where the Buffalo Roam: Bison in America EARLY
READER Penguin Young Readers, 2017. $15. Content: G.
This book gives basic information on Bison
including where they live, their size, their young and the relationship bison
have with people. There is a short
history on how the Bison were brought to near extension but now they are being
protected. There are many colorful
photographs throughout to supplement the story and a glossary at the end.
As far as early readers go, this one is
intended for a more confident reader. There
are 5-6 sentences per page with a glossary of fifteen vocabulary words because
of the high reading level. This would be
a good source of information for animal reports, but I’m not sure kids would
pick it up for a fun read on their own.
