Bad guy is a Two-Word Word (Recess Warriors #2) by Marcus Emerson -OPTIONAL

Emerson, Marcus Bad guy is a Two-Word Word (Recess Warriors#2), 150 pages.  GRAPHIC NOVEL.  Roaring Brook (Holtzbrinck), 2017.  $13. Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G; Violence: G.

A play on the imaginary games of recess, readers continue the adventure with Bryce, Yoshi, Scrap, Juliet, and Clinton. This time they must face off with the super villain Simon –who has enthralled the other students into doing anything that he says. Will Bryce and Juliet be able to save the day in a big way? Featuring incredible graphic novel illustrations.

This book features some of the best graphic novel illustrations that I have ever seen. The story is creative, funny, and inventive. That being said, I didn’t enjoy reading it –why? It borders right on the line between real and pretend. Younger readers won’t get the distinction and find the plethora of characters very confusing. Older reader will just be upset that the whole story is probably maybe just pretend, while they are used to reading some pretty amazing adventures in other graphic novels that are less questionable.
