Norma is a little happy because today she doesn’t have to go
to school. Instead she is going to her
Uncle Frank’s funeral.. She knows she’ll see her cousin Ray there, but she’s
not sure what else will happen.
Matt James is able to climb into the heads of every young
person who has ever gone to a funeral.
He brings the experience to life without being flippant or irreverent,
just honest. I’m not really sure what to
do with this book, however – who would want to read it before you take a child
to their first funeral? Would you read
this outloud to a class? Probably
not. I did like it as much as I liked
The Dead Bird by Margaret Wise Brown, but it seems like a book that needs to be
discovered, not presented.
