The familiar story of Beauty and the Beast with a few fun
twists. Belle has a jealous older sister
who gives her a sleeping potion so that she can’t return to the castle. Belle rushes back to save the Beast and the
end is much more fable-like and a lot less Disney.
The illustrations are gorgeous, unique, and transport you to
another time and place. The book was
translated from Dutch but reads very well in English. The twist at the end will either please or
shock young readers (spoiler alert: the mean older sister turns into a statue).
