Applegate, Katherine Sometimes You Fly Illustrated by
Jennifer Black Reinhardt PICTURE BOOK Clarion Books (Houghton Mifflin), 2018.
$18. Content: G.
This book explores how in life we have all kinds of
experiences. Before the accomplishments, we have to learn and sometimes overcome hardships. The pride or disappointment
is just part of the process of learning new things. This is a simple poem with 3-4 word lines on
each page. The illustrations are whimsical and reflect the different times in our lives where we learn or try
new things such as baking, dancing, driving, falling in love or making new
friends.
The moral of the story is that
through all of our experiences sometimes you fail, but sometimes you fly. My son thought this book was weird, but
that’s because it’s geared more towards adults as a book of reflection. The illustrations weren't my favorite.
