The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang - OPTIONAL

Wang, Jen The Prince and the Dressmaker, 277 pages.  GRAPHIC NOVEL.  First Second (Macmillan), 2018.  $17.  Language: G; Mature Content: PG-13; Violence: G.

Frances has been slaving away as a lowly worker at a fashionable Parisian clothing shop, when she takes a job for a mysterious client.  Soon she finds out that her client is Prince Sebastian, who secretly likes going out at night as Lady Crystallia.  Frances loves designing dresses for him and Sebastian/Crystallia loves wearing the creations.  Then Sebastian’s parents up the pressure for him to choose a bride and marry.  His heart is telling him one thing, but his need for secrecy drives him to lengths that push Frances away.  Maybe for good.

Wang’s artistry and story meld into a graphic novel that is a joy to read.  The intrigue and secrecy are just as palpable as the romance.  I would love to see more of Wang’s work.
