Fragments of the Lost by Megan Miranda - ADVISABLE

Miranda, Megan Fragments of the Lost, 369 pages. Crown (Random), 2017. $19. Content: Language: PG (7 swears); Mature Content: PG-13; Violence: PG-13.

A few months ago, Jessa’s ex-boyfriend, Caleb, died in a car accident and now Caleb’s mother wants Jessa to clean out Caleb’s room.  As Jessa goes through Caleb’s things she remembers all of the good and bad of their relationship, but Jessa feels as though something is missing in the story of Caleb’s accident.  As she digs deeper, a mystery develops and Jessa and Caleb’s best friend, Max, begin to gather the pieces.

The beginning of this story is slow and drawn out because each time Jessa picks up an item she flashes back to that point in their relationship.  I wanted to know if Jessa could put all the pieces together of the mystery and loved the ending of the book, but I’m unsure if teen readers would wade through all the beginning details.  The book as a whole though, has likable characters and it’s fun to watch it come together.  The mature content includes mention of condoms and some make out sessions but isn't detailed.  There is a fight and an accidental death described as well.
